The Jefferson Parish Coroner's Office,
led by coroner Gerry Cvitanovich, was one of six coroner's offices nationwide to receive accreditation from the National Association of Medical Examiners. The accreditation continues through October 2019. The office originally was accredited in 2009 under former coroner Robert Treuting.


Ellis Marsalis
received Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia's 2015 Charles E. Lutton Man of Music Award at the organization's 55th annual convention July 11. Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia is the largest and oldest fraternal society for music, and the Man of Music award is its highest honor, given every three years. Marsalis is a legendary jazz pianist and patriarch of the New Orleans musical family that includes sons Branford and Wynton Marsalis.


Daniel Williams,
a recent graduate of Holy Cross High School, won the national championship in Dramatic Interpretation at the National Speech & Debate Association's annual tournament in Dallas last month. Williams also received a $1,000 scholarship or college. At the same tournament, Holy Cross principal Dr. Joseph Murry Jr. was named the association's "Principal of the Year."


D'Juan Hernandez,
who served as interim CEO of Milestones Academy charter school in 2014, racked up $13,000 in personal charges on a school credit card, including his daughter's tuition at Tulane University, plane tickets and meals at restaurants, according to a July 13 report in The New Orleans Advocate.
