Re: “Jazz Fest tickets are $45 in advance, $60 at the gate. What do you think of the price?

The Festival International de Louisiane in Lafayette during the first weekend of Jazz Fest is FREE. Yes I said FREE. FREE or cheap parking is always available, plenty of food and drinks around and lots of great music - some of whom later play Jazz Fest. It always begins on Weds prior to the last weekend of April and goes through Sunday. Arts and crafts and other vendors. Try it you might like it. Did I mention that it's FREE?

Bring it on. Get Daddy's money and go for it. We Republican's don't hate you but we will enjoy beating you.

Re: “Lee Papa: The Rude Pundit

It seems that Mr. Rude believes that it was Bush who built the levees that broke. It also seems that he believes that BP is happy the well blew up and is happier still that it has not been able to stop the flow.

My bet is that BP would give anything to be able to stop the flow and would give anything to have prevented the blowout in the first place.

I don’t believe that either Bush wanted the devastation of Katrina or that BP wanted the devastation of the blowout.

BP certainly has more liability regarding the cause. It appears that someone (BP, Transocean, or Halliburton) failed to test the equipment that ultimately failed. And just as the Mayor and the former Governor failed to follow their Emergency Plans to evacuate prior to the storm; it seems that the current Federal administration has failed to follow its Emergency Plans regarding the fire booms and other actions that could have – should have been taken immediately.

Many blame Bush because people were killed, but if the Mayor and the Governor had followed their plans to evacuate the city many - perhaps all would have survived.

I pray the Obama administration gets the job done in preventing more damage to the coast and the economy; but I fear the reality will be more destruction and more damage to the economy of the State of LA.

The shutdown of offshore drilling will put many LA citizens out of work and the economic impact will be large. Yes, check to be certain the blowout preventer systems are working then let the drilling continue. A 6 month moratorium is an economic disaster for LA. What does Mr. Rude have to say about that disaster?

Re: “Barack Around the Clock

Obama’s visit was nothing more than a publicity tour. A cute little town hall meeting with controlled invitations and a visit to an elementary school. After the storm President Bush visited New Orleans and the Gulf Coast 13 times. These were day long or multiday visits. "Having traveled with President Bush when he would go to New Orleans or elsewhere in the Gulf Coast, it was absolutely exhausting for him, I'm sure, although he rarely showed it. I know it was exhausting for me," said retired Marine Gen. Douglas O'Dell the Coordinator of the President’s Office of Gulf Coast Rebuilding.

Barack Obama has a lot of work to do before he matches the achievements of President Bush in terms of Katrina recovery.

Re: “Smoke-Filled Room

Ms. Carrie Griffin Broussard needs a dose of common sense. Next she'll be trying to keep me from smoking my cigars at my own home or in my vehicle or on the street. The SCHIP program has many flaws including funding based on tobacco taxes. It has been estimated that we will need 22 million new smokers to pay for the expansion. What will need to be taxed next, soft drinks, fast food, beef?

The combination of Louisiana’s new laws and the increase in taxes has driven a number of small businesses out of business. Who is looking out for the rights of those workers? How will the State of LA replace the tax revenues lost as a result? Who is paying for the unemployment, food stamps and Medicaid of those workers? Do those issues matter to Ms. Broussard? I doubt it.

I hope the convention returns to New Orleans often. My only concern is that since I am not a manufacturer, wholesaler or retailer I can not attend.

Re: “More Twists and Turns

We've already won big simply by getting Jefferson out of office. He did little for his constituency and "lots" for himself and his family. It will be icing on the cake if he is convicted and sent to jail.

His replacement has done more for the district in his short time in office by trying to reduce the impact of increased government spending and it's impact on the poor than anything Jefferson has ever done.

Cao's vote against Cap and Trade alone is an attempt to protect his constituency from an annual increase in taxes and cost of living of at least $4000.00 per year.
