Circus, Circus, Circus

The Big Top gallery has been supporting grassroots local art and performance " from teenage ska bands to original theater to its weekly kids' music camp " for more than a decade. After 10 years, the space is overdue to throw its first fundraiser, and it looks like this one is set to be a lulu. Taking its name to heart, 3 Ring Circus Productions " the nonprofit 501(c)3 behind the Big Top " is turning Clio Street into a literal three-ring circus, with two stages outdoors and one inside. Ukulele maestro Jon Pult serves as ringmaster for a cast of performers too numerous to list in their entirety, but including the psychedelic droners Rotary Downs (pictured), cover band extraordinaire Clockwork Elvis, space-jazz ensemble the Other Planets and the intriguingly named Unkle Flim Flam's Ragtime Orleans Mechanical Music. Frequent Big Top performers like music-camp instructor Davis Rogan, ska-punkers Fatter than Albert and the burlesque troupe the Billion Dollar Baby Dolls also perform. Live and silent art auctions, raffles, circus-themed food from local restaurants and genuine carny antics are all on the bill of fare. Tickets $25 in advance, $35 at the door, $50 for VIP access. Tickets include one-year membership to 3 Ring Circus. — Alison Fensterstock
