Crescent City Celebration

In a weekend series of events and music, the Neighborhoods Partnership Network (NPN) honors efforts to rebuild New Orleans after the devastation caused by the levee failures and shares information on how different groups have tackled various challenges. The Trumpet Awards (noon Friday, March 7, Ashé Cultural Arts Center, 1712 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd.) will recognize individuals who have made key contributions to the rebuilding process. Toast to New Orleans Neighborhoods (6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, March 7, Howlin' Wolf, 906 S. Peters St., tickets $25 general admission, $15 NPN members) will celebrate with music by Kirk Joseph's Backyard Groove (pictured), plus there will be food, other entertainment and door prizes. On Saturday, a daylong Festival of Neighborhoods (Gentilly Terrace Elementary, 4720 Painters St.) will include information booths featuring local businesses, neighborhood organizations, schools, government agencies and activists. Also scheduled are the Free Agents Brass Band, theatrical performances, the Ashé Drum Circle, a visit by the Audubon Institute Bugmobile, a space walk and more. NPN was set up to help individuals and neighborhood organizations share information and give citizens a voice in the process. See the Web site for complete information about all three events. — Will Coviello
