His Archers of Loaf reboot has drawn more attention, but Eric Bachmann is actually in the midst of two reunions — insofar as you can reunite a solo project. In 2009, after releasing Forfeit/Fortune, his fifth post-Archers, post-Appalachian album as Crooked Fingers, Bachmann left music behind to teach English in Taipei, Taiwan. Back with a creative vengeance, he surprised a crowd at Cat's Cradle in Carrboro, N.C., last January, casually trotting out the hometown-hero Loafers to open for Merge labelmate The Love Language (whose members weren't yet in high school when Icky Mettle was dominating college radio waves in 1994). A sixth Crooked Fingers LP, October release Breaks in the Armor, is less of a surprise. Despite a three-year hiatus, Bachmann found the mantle just as he left it. Forfeit/Fortune closed with two of his strongest songs since the Archers bowed, "Modern Dislocation" and the stirring Neko Case duet "Your Control." Armor opens in the same mode, with Neil Diamond-in-the-rough MacGuffin "Typhoon" and the stomped-out pop of "Bad Blood" signaling another sturdy package from one of rock's most dependable deliverymen. Strands of Oak opens. Tickets $12. — Noah Bonaparte Pais
