Re: “Street appeal: New Orleans life through the lens of Cheryl Gerber

Gerber is a lovely gift to present-day New Orleans from old New Orleans. Like other great NO photographers (her mentor Smith and Jonathan Traviesa are two that quickly come to mind), Gerber's work captures New Orleans people as proponents of the public moment (never unwilling and usually aware of the effect of the thing they are participating in, even if it is sitting and smoking or biking through or jumping on a mattress) and always makes a human connection between the photographer and the "subject". Her recent work to photograph those who showed up around the monuments during their removal was so fair and humane that one could not help seeing more than just "the opposition" in her photos no matter which side of the barricade one stood. I'd consider it a great honor to be caught by her eye sooner or later, to be deemed interesting enough to become a part of her New Orleans tapestry. That's not a hint Cheryl; just a hope.
