DJ Jubilee (Jerome Temple) is sure to have hot boyz and girlz hunched over, knees bent and palms down as they shake their derrieres to his classic call-and-response dance moves on the opening Saturday of Jazz Fest. For nearly two decades, the New Orleans rapper has maintained his status of local legend as the originator of bounce rap.

While teaching special education and coaching football at West Jefferson High School in the early 1990s, Jubilee was discovered by local producers and was soon signed to Take Fo' Records. His debut single, "Do The Jubilee All," became a local hit in 1993. In 2007, director Matt Miller highlighted Jubilee's career and the evolution of New Orleans bounce rap in his documentary Ya Heard Me?.

Though Jubilee has not released any new material in recent years, his hip-shake-inducing music has remained a strong influence on New Orleans' ever-evolving rap scene. Local superstar Juvenile yielded a platinum-selling song in 1999 inspired by Jubilee's "Back That Thang Up." Jubilee's music also inspired No Limit recording artists The 504 Boyz in their 2000 hit single "Wooble, Wooble," a reference to one of his call-and-response dance moves. Rappers Lil' Jon and Three 6 Mafia have also borrowed his catchphrases for their own hit singles.

Additionally, Jubilee has influenced a new generation of artists, including Peecachoo, Gotti Boi Chris and 5th Ward Weebie, the latter of whom will be joining him on stage this year, along with fellow bounce artist Ms. Tee.
