Easier With Practice

First time feature film writer/director Kyle Patrick Alvarez's Easier With Practice is equal parts dirty joke and slacker love story. Davy is an aspiring young writer taking a break from temp work to pursue a DIY book tour of dingy bookstores and college campuses in New Mexico. He reads from his collection of short stories and drinks in bars with wide-eyed coeds. Phone sex with a random caller to his motel room gives him a strange sense of connection during his lonely quest. He eagerly shares his cell phone number, and the sad truth is he is well suited to fall for a woman he mostly has to imagine. Of course, an attractive and interested real woman shows up, and he must choose between fiction and nonfiction. It's a slick and entertaining film with some adult language and a surprisingly happy ending. The film screens in the New Orleans Film Festival. Tickets $9 general admission, $7 New Orleans Film Society members, festival packages available. — Will Coviello
