Edible Schoolyard

Every other month, the Edible Schoolyard (www.esynola.org) at Samuel J. Green Charter School (2319 Valence St.) holds an open garden day, inviting the public to see its innovative teaching garden in action. The event this Saturday (11 a.m. to 1 p.m.) doubles as the debut of the "Time for Lunch Campaign," a project of the nonprofit Slow Food USA (www.slowfoodusa.org) aimed at improving the quality of meals provided at schools. The Edible Schoolyard is the first expansion of the original program developed in Berkeley, Calif., by chef Alice Waters and her Chez Panisse Foundation.
