Re: “Gratitude for the Lutheran teens who visited New Orleans

when you go to new orleans, there are people there who look at you and say "i am a survivor". they just say it. and suddenly you find yourself in an awkward situation in which you don't know whether to say "i'm sorry" or say "congratulations". but i do know one thing: having been a youth who attended this gathering, the best thing to do is shake their hand, hug them, and say "i'm happy for you." then ask their story, knowing that it will add to your own. while i was there i met SO MANY people whom i wish i'd had the time to sit and talk to. everyone has a story they're just dying to share. while i listened to people talk about what had happened, i usually started to cry because it was heartbreaking. but i could see in their eyes the gratefulness for what all of us had done for their city. i can not express how much i learned from not only the gathering, but the PEOPLE of the city of new orleans. i still cry everytime i think about it. so you may think that there isn't a way for you to thank us, but to this minnesota girl, you've already given so much and more.
