Correction on Commander's

Sorry to Commander's Palace and to anyone I steered wrong when I reported that Off the Menu at Commander's Palace, the television program from Turner South, runs locally on WWL-TV at 10:35 p.m. Sundays. The correct time is 11 p.m.

Hurrying Up for the Heart

You have three weeks worth of excuses (Mardi Gras, Super Bowl, Mardi Gras) if you haven't planned a treat for your Valentine yet. But the last minute is nigh, and I have some recommendations, sent to me by those in the know. In conjunction with the Shakespeare Festival at Tulane, Muriel's (801 Chartres St., 568-1885) and new Chef Eric Venéy are throwing a Love Sonnet Soiree. The six-course set menu with wine pairings costs $150 per person. Bella Luna (914 N. Peters St., 529-1583) is throwing a Lover's Feast Thursday through Saturday, which includes "Appeteasers" to start and a "Sweet Affair" to finish. Including a glass of champagne, the meal costs $50 per person. There's another Lover's Feast, at Midi South of France (614 Canal St., 527-6712) -- a four-course menu with champagne and a rose that culminates in a heart-shaped dessert. Accompanied by live music, it runs $39.95 per person. Martin Wine Cellar (3827 Barrone St., 896-7380; 714 Elmeer Ave., Metairie, 896-7350) is selling gourmet-to-go dinners, which include a bottle of Champagne, salad, a choice between three entrees and a lavender-honey brulee tart with chocolate-dipped strawberries. You must order the $65 dinner-for-two by Wednesday. Or skip the meal and go straight for a bottle of Vermeer Dutch Chocolate Cream, a ridiculously silky, vodka-based liqueur produced by the founder of Skyy Vodka. The Vermeer Dutch Chocolate Cream can be found at Martin Wine Cellar, Albertson's and Sav-A-Center locations. While the makers suggest drinking it on ice or mixed into coffee, straight out of the bottle worked well for me.

Wine Time

Martin Wine Cellar (714 Elmeer Ave., Metairie, 896-7350) has another exciting event on-deck: a visit on Friday, Feb. 22, from Randall Grahm, the zany owner-winemaker from Bonny Doon. If there's any question about registering for this one, check out his Web site, which contains great quotes like, "I detest the current fashion of vinous pulchritude but I will often get inexorably sucked in the seductive vortex of vinous easy listening."

Market Watch

You'll find members of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra at the Crescent City Farmers Market on Valentine's Day. On Saturday, Gumbo Shop (630 St. Peters St., 525-1486) Chef Richard Stewart will create a Lenten batch of Gumbo Z'Herbs. The Tuesday market is at 200 Broadway St. and runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Saturday market is at 700 Magazine St. and runs from 8 a.m. to noon. The Thursday market is at 3700 Orleans Ave. and runs from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Call 861-5898 or visit
