Wine and Women A contingent of women winemakers from Europe is coming to town later this month for a special dinner hosted by one of the city's best-known chefs, Susan Spicer . The event, called "Female Finesse," is scheduled for May 27 at Bayona (430 Dauphine St., 525-4455; in conjunction with the European Wine Council (, a New York-based group composed of trade representatives from eight European counties. Winemakers attending the dinner include Sara Perez of Spain's Mas Martinet , Natalia Guicciardini Strozzi of Tenute Guicciardini Strozzi of Italy and Laurence Faller of Domaine Weinbach in Alsace. Selections of their wines will be paired with Spicer's cooking. The event begins at 7 p.m. and the cost is $125 per person. Burger Beneficiaries The Metairie hamburger emporium Phil's Grill (3020 Severn Ave., 324-9080; is holding a fundraiser through May called "Burgerpalooza." The restaurant asked local sports celebrities and media personalities to create their own signature burgers and has pledged to donate $5 from each of the special burgers sold to New Orleans Saints player Deuce McAllister 's Catch 22 Foundation . These fundraiser burgers cost $12.99, and customers who order them also get a T-shirt. In addition, the restaurant is holding a silent auction of items including NFL jerseys signed by local players and paintings by Charmaine Neville , with all proceeds benefiting Catch 22. McAllister's foundation funds programs for under-privileged youth in the Gulf South region. Burgerpalooza is sponsored by Gulf Coast Bank & Trust , Crescent City Graphics and Faux Pas Prints .

Jazzing up the Market Jazz Tacos (307 Exchange Place, 872-0015) is this month's vendor in the Green Plate Special tent at the Uptown edition of the Crescent City Farmer's Market (200 Broadway St., 861-5898;, and will serve prepared lunches to market shoppers each Tuesday. The menu changes each week and includes dishes like Honduran tacos, pupusas, seafood soup and flan. On May 31, the downtown edition of the market (700 Magazine St., 861-5898; will host a celebration of the local brown shrimp season, with cooking demonstrations by Galatoire's (209 Bourbon St., 525-2021; chef Brian Landry and information about what makes the local shrimp unique. The Tuesday market is held 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Saturday market is held from 8 a.m. to noon. — McNulty
