Bourbon Streak Ten whiskey distillers from around the country are coming to town this week for the American Whiskey Fest hosted by the New Orleans Bourbon Society (NOBS), a group formed by restaurateur Dickie Brennan to promote bourbon appreciation. At 5 p.m. Wednesday, distillers from Woodford Reserve , Buffalo Trace , Jack Daniels and Wild Turkey will join a panel discussion titled "Whiskey Nation: American Culture and Brown Liquor" at the Southern Food & Beverage Museum ( Later that evening, distillers will host "Spirited Master Distiller Dinners" with whiskey cocktails and paired menus at Brennan's Bourbon House (, Palace Café (, Dickie Brennan's Steakhouse ( and his family's Mr. B's Bistro ( The dinners begin at 6:30 p.m. and cost $85 per person. On Thursday, Bourbon House will host the distillers beginning at 5:30 p.m. for guided tastings, whiskey cocktails and appetizers, plus an auction of distiller memorabilia. Admission on Thursday is $45. Creole Italian Galatoire's Restaurant (209 Bourbon St., 525-2021; will host restaurateur and wine impresario Joe Bastianich ( for a wine dinner on Monday, Sept. 29, to benefit the Brees Dream Foundation , the charity of New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees . Bastianich is the business partner of chef Mario Batali in more than a dozen Italian restaurants in New York and Las Vegas and is the son of Italian cookbook author Lidia Matticchio Bastianich . The dinner will feature wines produced by Bastianich's own wineries. The evening begins at 6:30 p.m. with an auction to benefit Operation Kids' Edible Schoolyard Project , a program supported by the Brees foundation for food education in city schools. The cost is $200 per person. This Thursday, The Wizard of Oz will be shown on the big screen at NOCCA/Riverfront (2800 Chartres St.) during a champagne and cheese reception beginning at 6:30 p.m. The event is a fundraiser for Lazarus House (, a local service agency for people with HIV/AIDS who can no longer care for themselves.
