Forgetters is less than four months old, has exactly zero recorded material, and only exists because its antecedent, Thorns of Life, flamed out in the process of planning its debut album. How is this potentially a can't-miss show again? The answer is frontman Blake Schwarzenbach, whose previous two projects in the 1990s, Jawbreaker and Jets to Brazil, are quietly revered cornerstones of pre-emo (premo?) punk and melodious, introspective indie rock, respectively. Thus far, the only clues to the direction of this new outfit — which is based in Brooklyn and includes former Against Me! drummer Kevin Mahon — are a few YouTube videos and a short clip on the band's blog ( of a stop-and-start performance at Manhattan's Generation Records in October. Snarling guitars, smart song structures, effacing vocals fired as if out of a Gatling gun: Jets to Breaker just about does the trick. Baton Rouge's Kicktease and locals Necro Hippies open.
