Halloween Parades

Nothing says scary like costumed masses, drinks in hand, all clamoring for candy tossed from parade riders. There are parades and events happening in several neighborhoods this Halloween. Making its debut is the Krewe of Boo, created by "Mr. Mardi Gras" Blaine Kern, featuring Carnival-style floats, riders and throws. It makes its way from Elysian Fields Avenue to the Convention Center on Halloween night (see p. 37 for more information). The ever-popular Monaghan's Halloween Parade features stilt walkers, jugglers, horse-drawn carriages and more. It begins at 7:30 p.m. at Molly's at the Market (1107 Decatur St.) and rolls through the French Quarter. All the way Uptown, there's the first annual Halloween on Oak, more of a block party than parade. The event celebrates the Ivory Coast Festival of the Masks with live music, food, African drumming and dancing in the street, as well as a costume contest. Local artist Frenchy will capture the revelry on canvas. Free admission. " Anna Marschalk-Burns
