Inflorescentia : Paintings by Deedra Ludwig and Sculpture by Anne Boudreau

In her elegantly decorous new paintings (pictured), Deedra Ludwig seeks to connect her experience of timeless nature with the dynamic world of contemporary art. Dividing her time between Port Townshend, Wash., and New Orleans, she explores a variety of diverse ecosystems where she collects and records the various flora, fauna, stones and soils that define those places. Incorporating her carefully assembled materials into the painter's traditional palette of pigments, oils and waxes, she tries to recreate a sense of place infused with memories of the original landscape. In like fashion, Anne Boudreau's new sculpture incorporates organic imagery inspired by the forms she finds all around her in the natural world. Through linen, silk and wire, among other materials, they attain new life in the more rarified spaces of the gallery. -- D. Eric Bookhardt
