Instruments A Comin' 2008

=Tipitina's annual blowout outdoor music festival and silent auction aims to add some shiny new trumpets and sousaphones to the $1.3 million worth of instruments it has bought so far with proceeds from six fundraisers. This year's event features Little Feat (pictured), the freewheeling, Dixie-fried roots-funk outfit formed by keyboard player Bill Payne and guitarist Lowell George in Southern California in the early '70s. The jam-packed bill is an all-star list of the usual local suspects: the Radiators, Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk with Zigaboo Modeliste, Galactic with Johnny Vidacovich and George Porter Jr., the Rebirth Brass Band, Walter 'Wolfman" Washington, Big Sam's Funky Nation, Donald Harrison Jr. and the T.I.P. Interns, and Troy Andrews and Orleans Avenue. Also on the lineup is the funky supergroup Dragon Smoke, with Ivan Neville, Eric Lindell and Galactic's Stanton Moore and Rob Mercurio. At 8:30 p.m. there will be a ceremony inducting Ivan Neville and Johnny Vidacovich into Tip's Walk of Fame. The VIP ticket includes upstairs balcony access with open bar and food from several local restaurants, plus a private indoor set by Little Feat at 6:30 p.m. Tickets $40, VIP tickets $200. — Alison Fensterstock
