Hi, I'm Jonny Scaramanga, mentioned in this article as one of the sources for the Loch Ness monster story.

I agree with your main point – that there are much more substantial reasons to be concerned about the fundamentalist nature of many Christian schools (and the lack of academic provision). I wish people were looking at the curriculum providers, and at schools outside of Louisiana. But I don't think the Nessie story going viral is necessarily a bad thing.

I'm frustrated too at how difficult it is to get people to engage with genuine concerns about education. I think it takes a story like this to get people to pay attention. There are more important things than the Loch Ness monster, but none of them are headline grabbers.

If people weren't talking about Nessie, they wouldn't be talking about more important aspects of the voucher program. They wouldn't be talking about it at all.
