Re: “Samuel's Blind Pelican

Let me start with I’m a big foodie and love to try new places. I hardly ever take the time to make a complaint and would typically give places the benefit of the doubt of just having an off day, but when a restaurant yields such a negative experience as I’ve had today, I feel compelled to share it with others to keep them from wasting their time & money, as well as with the hope that the establishment will treat the review with care and make some changes for the better. We went in to the Blind Pelican for lunch today (a group of four) and this place has so much potential but absolutely DOES NOT deliver! What could be an amazing place—the atmosphere, location, and beer selection are fantastic—is instead a HUGE disappointment! We were one of two tables of customers in the entire place. We ordered items directly from the menu (The Chuckster--a fried chicken sandwich with brown gravy & roast beef debris, a blackened chicken sandwich with bacon and cheddar, a pepperoni pizza, and a Margherita pizza). We had also wanted to try the truffle fries for an appetizer, but they were out of truffle oil so we were recommended the nachos and they were mundane at the very most. The chips are supposedly made in house, but they were served with unmelted shredded cheese, diced tomatoes, jalapenos and a side of sour cream, and a side of salsa (standard jar salsa). Honestly, they aren’t of quality to be served on any restaurant menu and I’d be embarrassed for them to represent my cuisine. An hour after our nachos, our food began to trickle out and the experience became worse and worse. Keep in mind that the lunch crowd has ONE HOUR for lunch… The Chuckster came out without gravy and we were told after asking three times for it that they were out of gravy. The blackened chicken came out with an overbearing sauce on it that was not even mentioned on the menu and it was sopping with it, along with cold, sad (frozen) sweet potato fries. The pizzas came out and were two margherita pizzas with pepperoni (they somehow merged our separate pizza orders) and we were told the corrected ones would be brought out shortly. Thirty minutes later, two pizzas came out—also both margherita pizzas with pepperoni and at this time we realized that they had in fact brought out the same two original mistake pizzas reheated… now with charred crusts. We were told at this point that our entire bill would be comped and that the margherita pizza I had originally ordered straight off the menu that has NO pepperoni would be started now and be out in 15 MORE minutes. We asked for boxes and my pizza eventually came out boxed up so we could leave. What I had read in previous reviews was great pizza was actually greasy sopping pizza drenched in garlic—pretty much inedible. This place isn’t worth your time or energy to try to get the correct order directly from the menu. I’ve been told just since leaving that the problem is the owner and that they cannot keep a kitchen manager because no one wants to work with him. I watched the renovation of this place for months, awaited its opening and was excited to try it, only to be severely disappointed. From reading other reviews, it seems many others have had similar experiences and from speaking with someone who works there, it seems this is the reoccurring daily operation! Having put so much money into creating such a nice place, it’s a true shame that the food and service are such a disaster. Unless major changes take place, seemingly meaning the owner getting a reality check about his troubled business practices, this place WILL NOT make it and I’d recommend NOT going.

Re: “French bistro Anna’s opens in Faubourg Marigny with no-tipping policy

Very strange that Gambit has featured this considering the website's "emergency closure" warning, Agreed that it seems suspect that the restaurant is owned by a 16 year old 'born in 2000' that has studied in many countries and fluent in many languages. It's phenomenal if this is in fact true, but such a case warrants more detail included in introduction. Something definitely seems off about this website/story. Is this even legit, Gambit?
