Leges Party for Children's Hospital

Lobbyists and other frequent recipients of invitations to legislative fundraisers were no doubt delighted to get invited to a different kind of political fundraiser this week — the second annual Legislators' Charity Fund Holiday Celebration benefiting Children's Hospital in New Orleans. The $100-a-person event will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday (Dec. 9) at Basin Street Station, 501 Basin St., with all proceeds going to Children's Hospital. The inaugural event last year, which was the brainchild of Rep. Walt Leger III (D-New Orleans) and Sen. J. P. Morrell (D-New Orleans), raised $15,000 for the hospital, and Leger says he's optimistic this year's party will raise even more. "The weather was awful last year," Leger says. "It was the night before it snowed in New Orleans, but we still had a good turnout." In addition to Leger and Morrell, the event is co-hosted by Reps. Patrick Connick (R-Marrero), Greg Cromer (R-Slidell), Gregory Ernst (R-New Orleans), Girod Jackson III (D-Harvey), Joseph Lopinto (R-Metairie), Cedric Richmond (D-New Orleans), John Schroeder (R-Covington) and Kirk Talbot (R-River Ridge). The Legislators Charity Fund is a federally recognized 501(c)(3) charity. The event features live music, a silent auction, food from top local restaurants and libations.
