Kurt Vile and the Violators with Beach Fossils

Tue. Nov. 5 | Even if Kurt Vile's blazed college-dropout rock isn't your cup of green tea, you have to love the man's titles: 2011 forgotten-epiphany Smoke Ring For My Halo had "Society is My Friend," "Puppet to the Man" and "Peeping Tomboy"; sequel Wakin on a Pretty Daze, "Was All Talk" and included "Shame Chamber." Beach Fossils and VBA open at 10 p.m. at One Eyed Jacks.

HIP Fest

Tue.-Wed. Nov. 5-6 | The Hosting Improvising Performers (HIP) Festival features the Jeff Albert Quartet, Trapper Keeper and various collaborations between musicians including drummer Hamid Drake, vibraphonist Pasquale Mirra, flutist Nicole Mitchell, cellist Helen Gillet and others. At 9 p.m. at Blue Nile.

Thee Oh Sees

Wed. Nov. 6 | John Dwyer missed his mark by a week: Thee Oh Sees' death-rattling yips, exhumed and exhilarated on graveyard-whistler Floating Coffin (Castle Face), should've set Quintron and Pussycat's Halloween spike. The OBN III's and Blind Shake open at 10 p.m. at One Eyed Jacks.

Lee Fields and the Expressions

Mon. Nov. 11 | In a career spanning more than four decades, vocalist Lee Fields has blended soul, funk and blues and drawn comparisons to James Brown. In his early 60s, he's still going strong and released Faithful Man in 2012. At 9 p.m. at One Eyed Jacks.
