Lucia di Lammermoor

Adapted from Sir Walter Scott's novel of feuding Scottish families, Gaetano Donizetti's opera Lucia di Lammermoor is a tragic love story, which of course involves a member of each clan pursuing a forbidden union. Lucia is in love with Edgardo of the Ravenswoods. Lucia's brother Enrico hopes she will marry Arturo instead, which would be politically beneficial to their family, the Ashtons. His attempts to push her into the marriage drive her to madness while Edgardo is away, but the troubles are just beginning. New Orleanian James Marvel directs Jane Redding (pictured) as Lucia, Richard Zeller as Enrico, Scott Ramsay as Edgardo and Raymond Aceto as Raimondo. Opening night features some fun extras including a kilt-friendly leg contest at 6:30 p.m. and talk on the staging of opera productions by Jack Belsom at 7 p.m. Tickets $10-$120. -- Will Coviello
