Costumed krewe members march in the Zulu parade.

Every Carnival, a few krewes mark milestones, and this weekend includes some notable ones. The old-line Krewe of Proteus highlights its 135th anniversary with a king's float that harks back to one of its parades from the early 1880s. The Krewe of Endymion celebrates its 50th parade with a retrospective theme and a new signature float, Club Endymion, featuring dazzling light and video displays. The satirical Krewe d'Etat marks its 20th parade, and the weekend features the debut of a new group, the all-female Krewe of Pandora, which parades in Metairie on Lundi Gras.

Below are my previews of all float parades in Orleans and Jefferson parishes on the final days of Carnival. They include information on themes, royalty, routes, celebrity guests, throws and more. There are parade route maps on page 33, and the annual Rex Bulletin appears on page 36.

Enjoy the parades, and look for Rex Duke, Carnival's foremost parade critic, in the Feb. 16 issue of Gambit.
