The krewe of Hermes tends to choose themes from the ancient world and doesn't announce them until the day of the parade. The procession includes marching bands from Talladega College and St. Augustine High School and marching groups such as the 610 Stompers and Candy Girls.

6:30 p.m.
Location: Uptown

Dictator: secret
Throws: blinking Dictator and High Priest beads, plush title float pillow, 3-D image cups, lighted femur bones, bottle opener key rings and doubloons
Le Krewe d'Etat marks its 20th anniversary, and there are many special anniversary logo throws including koozies, blinking beads, throwing discs and cups. The satirical theme is announced on the day of the parade and the krewe's two dancing teams, Dictator's Dancin' Dawlins and N'Awlins Nymphs, also lampoon topical subjects. The procession includes the Tulane University Marching Band and the Prime Time Brass Band from New York.

Theme: Morpheus Takes a Staycation

Throws: plush moons, stars and sheep, a variety of doubloons, krewe 3-D image cups and beads
The krewe enjoys local attractions and festivals with a staycation theme highlighting the Audubon Zoo, Aquarium of the Americas and Mardi Gras. WWL-TV's Sheba Turk, Mike Hoss, Laura Buchtel and Tamica Lee ride as grand marshals. Switzerland's Guggenmusik Kamikaze band returns to the lineup. The captain's float has been refurbished with fiber-optic moons.

7 p.m.
Location: Metairie
Theme: Come to the Mardi Gras
Floats: 20
Queen: Emma Louise Parish
King: Ed Hilderbrand
Throws: swords, krewe koozies, cups and doubloons
The Archbishop Rummel High School Marching Band leads the parade. The theme honors Carnival groups past and present, including the krewes of Bacchus, Adonis and Saturn.
