Re: “Tastes Great, Less Swilling

While we're on the subject, don't forget that Laurie Delk - local manager of wine and beer retail purveyor Cork & Bottle - has been on a mission and porters vs. stouts challenge this month and continues for several more days. The challenge: Taste 100 beers in 30 days. The mission: Raise food and money for Second Harvest Food Bank of New Orleans. How can you help (and enjoy reading her reviews of each stout and porter)? Follow her blog at and click on the link to donate. Or bring canned goods with you to one of her beer sampling events! And yes, do also check out Dan Stein's great supply of high-octane brews.

Re: “2005 Tintara Shiraz

I've been trying to keep this a secret for nearly two years (starting with the 2003 vintage, then 2004). Now others will find out what an intense, non-Aussie-Shiraz-like wine this is (reminds me of some of the best Syrahs from Central Coast CA). Oh, well...glad I'm hoarding my supply...because they're likely to fly off the shelf now (although you neglected to note one local retailer, and I'm not tellin'). Thanks a lot, Brenda (he said facetiously). And I've found you really don't need to decant...just let it open up in the glass for a few minutes (if you can stand to wait).

Re: “Bouqets & Brickbats

My only comment is regarding the "new look" of the symbols since the change to The Gambit last week. Bring back the flowers and the brick!! It only makes sense if you're going to continue to call this "Bouquets and Brickbats"...and not "Positives and Negatives." Understand the name change. Understand the format/size change (of print edition). Don't get this change.
