Re: “Gratitude for the Lutheran teens who visited New Orleans

I am a church youth worker who was at the Gathering with a group of kids from my church, and wanted to say a big "thank you" to the people of New Orleans for your kindness and hospitality while we were guests in your city.

We stayed at a hotel on Bourbon Street, and one night while walking back to the hotel, some of my group and I stopped to talk to Jesse, a musician at the corner of Royal and Bienville. He told me of the struggle of raising his 10 year old grandson, then as a thank you to my youth (and all the other youth who had served that week), he gave us the gift of a song: Bob Dylan's "Forever Young":

May God bless and keep you always,
May your wishes all come true,
May you always do for others
And let others do for you.
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung,
May you stay forever young,
Forever young, forever young,
May you stay forever young.

May you grow up to be righteous,
May you grow up to be true,
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you.
May you always be courageous,
Stand upright and be strong,
May you stay forever young,
Forever young, forever young,
May you stay forever young.

May your hands always be busy,
May your feet always be swift,
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift.
May your heart always be joyful,
May your song always be sung,
May you stay forever young,
Forever young, forever young,
May you stay forever young.

Amen. And thank you.
