Morning 40 Federation

The 9th Ward's beloved musical miscreants the Morning 40 Federation always party like it's their birthday. This time around, though, it actually is " the well-preserved (or possibly just pickled) gang is celebrating a full decade of boozy musical misbehavior. Since 1998, the 40s have been playing guttural, bombastic rock that makes use of the sleaziest bleating possible from their horn section, explosive barroom guitar and gleefully dissolute lyrics celebrating the whiskey-soaked, unshowered downtown New Orleans lifestyle. Over the past couple of years, the 40s have recorded intermittently (as the New Orleans Hellhounds) with the Detroit dirty-soul king Andre Williams; the raw punk-soul album that resulted, Can You Deal With It?, finally sees the light of day at the end of July. With Egg Yolk Jubilee. Tickets $12. — Alison Fensterstock
