Morning 40 Federation

10 p.m. Wed., Dec. 31

One Eyed Jacks, 615 Toulouse St., 569-8361; www.oneeyedjacks.net

Everyone's heard the adage about New Year's Eve being a holiday for amateur drinkers — the implication being that the pros are out honing their livers 365 days a year instead of just getting squiffy on the 31st. Experts and dabblers alike can share the holiday with New Orleans' most accomplished professional musical imbibers, the Morning 40 Federation, a band that takes its name from an imaginary organization that forces people to drink a 40-ounce bottle of malt liquor for breakfast. The band's 100-proof bombastic, brassy barroom rock sounds as if it were marinated in Jameson's and rinsed off in a shower of Miller High Life. Opening are Bobby Adams, a local singer/songwriter who buttresses dim, noirish-yet-poppy guitar melodies with a foundation of splodgy, psychedelic electronic effects, and the unfortunately named Kick Buttkiss, the rarely seen musical project of One Eyed Jacks co-owner Rio Hackford. Tickets $15. — Fensterstock
