Mr. Quintron and Miss Pussycat

10 p.m. Wed., Dec. 31

Ernie K-Doe's Mother-In-Law Lounge, 1500 N. Claiborne Ave., 947-1078

Downtown New Orleans' favorite puppeteer-and-organist combo — which recently released its label-debut on Memphis' Goner Records, Too Thirsty 4 Love — ring in the New Year with Moog, maracas and mayhem at the famed Tremé lounge. If you haven't stopped by Miss Antoinette K-Doe's in a while, you'll be pleased to know the famous mural covering the outside of the bar — washed out by Katrina floodwaters — is almost entirely redone with fresh paint in psychedelic colors representing the Empress of the Universe's favorite local music scene players (including, of course, Quintron and Miss Pussycat). Perpetual guest of honor Ernie K-Doe, in statue form, presides over the party. Sloppy punks Die Rotzz also play, as does Lower Ninth Ward-born bluesman Guitar Lightnin' Lee, who studied guitar with the famed Jimmy Reed. Lee mixes it up by using members of Die Rotzz as his backing group, the Thunder Band. The effect is loud, grinding, fuzzed-out electric party music that rocks hard and long. Tickets $10. — Alison Fensterstock
