Black Rose Band Record Release Party Photo by Cheryl Gerber Glued together from the jagged post-Katrina remains of New Orleans rock acts the Detonations, Kondor and the Scripts, Black Rose Band is in many ways a lucky accident. The four players had known each other and worked together in various permutations for more than a decade, but because of other projects, they had never played with each other in this combination. They hit the ground running after the storm as Black Rose, though, and the sound that resulted from this particular recipe turned out to be a tight, gritty, greasy, blues-based Southern garage rock that makes them one of the best new bands in New Orleans this year. The band's new 7-inch is coming out on the respected underground Memphis punk label Contaminated Records, whose founder Alicja Trout will be joining Black Rose on this bill with her rough-edged New Wave-style punk act, the River City Tanlines. Also opening up is Guitar Lightning Lee, a high-octane R&B guitar spanker who's studied with both Jimmy Reed and Cookie and the Cupcakes, joined by Die Rotzz's Paul Artigue on drums. Kitty Lynn, a sugar-voiced country chanteuse singing whiskey-soaked songs of heartbreak and yearning with Clockwork Elvis' DC Harbold on guitar also opens. Tickets $7. --ÊAlison Fensterstock
