Neko Case is responsible for my favorite ew Orleans concerts in two of the past three years: with k.d. lang and Laura Veirs at The Joy Theater in July 2016 and solo at The Civic Theatre in January 2014. She will have at least two cracks at topping 2017's list — she's performing with her other supergroup, The New Pornographers, at Tipitina's in May — but all smart bets should be on this gig as the showstopper. As with My Morning Jacket's Jim James, Bonnie "Prince" Billy's Will Oldham and Bubu Music wonder Janka Nabay, Case is the rare nonjazz singer whose innate instrument begs for a session inside Preservation Hall, her voice powered by such unexplainable force that additional amplification is wholly unnecessary. To hear her impossibly perfect alto — on "This Tornado Loves You" or "That Teenage Feeling" or, God help us, "Deep Red Bells" — reverberating off the same exfoliated walls that felt Sweet Emma Barrett's sass will be something to behold. "Ghost Wiring," indeed. Tickets $85-$200.
