The New Orleans Burlesque Festival draws dancers from across North America, England, France and New Zealand. Shows highlight different styles of performance, and the festival also includes opening and closing parties and a pool party at The Drifter Hotel. Rita Alexander, nicknamed The Champagne Girl, was a star of Bourbon Street clubs in the 1960s. She attends the opening party at 8 p.m. Thursday at Loa in the International Hotel. The Bad Girls of Burlesque features edgier acts by Masokiss, The Foul Play Cabaret, Lili St. Byr, Blaze, London's Miss Banbury Cross and others in shows at 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Friday at the House of Blues. The Queen of Burlesque competition favors classic styles, and contestants include Miss Miranda, Raquel Reed, Jessabelle Thunder, Iris Le'Mour, Lou Lou Duchesse De Riere and others. Reigning queen Minxie Mimieux also performs at the event at Civic Theatre at 8 p.m. Saturday. Medianoche, Ariana Savalas, Hazel Honeysuckle, Sugar Kane and France's Aleksei von Wosylius and Mara de Nudee perform in Mondo Burlesque at 8 p.m. Friday at Harrah's New Orleans.
