Open Studios

Artists, galleries and alternative spaces open their doors for a weekend of receptions and shows. Participating venues include a handful of French Quarter galleries and locations in Treme, Marigny and Bywater. The 3-year-old event showcases art and also the close-knit community where the artists live and work. Venues from McDonogh 15 to Recycle for the Arts (Saturday only) to coffeehouses to Faubourg Marigny Art & Books will show work in mediums including painting, sculpture, jewelry, glass, photography, mosaics, folk art, mixed media, assemblage, video, puppetry, masks and new media. A map of participating locations is available online (www.openstudioartists.org) or pick one up at Faubourg Marigny Art & Books (600 Frenchmen St.) during event hours. Some venues are open on Saturday only. Free admission. — Will Coviello
