Re: “What can you tell me about Camp Plauche?

Our family home and dad's office was built in 1947 only a few blocks from Camp Plauchee on Jefferson Hwy. My father bought his first dental chair, x-ray machine, and equip from the camp's dental surplus. Also, our neighbor's home was one of the converted buildings mentioned in the article. It was transplanted there with many other homes in the area. This home was torn down a few years ago to make way for a parking lot.

I can remember riding around through the camp streets many times in the 1950's. Always seemed to run across rabbit hunters at night and black berry pickers during the day. And of course there were probably 1000's of neighborhood kids that learned to drive on the maze of empty streets in the camp during the 50's and early 1960s. It was a ghost town. I was burning rubber on the streets of Camp Plauchee in my dad's car at 8 years old! Not because I took off fast....I just had trouble reaching the clutch while lap-sitting.

Nice to have the Home Depot.... but wish we did not have to trade old Camp Plauchee to get it.
