Strange things happen when you listen to Quintron's Weather Warlock ( uninterrupted for long periods of time. Drone gives way to trance, which gives way to a new, recalibrated silence. The directionality of the sound reverses. Signal becomes noise, and ohms turn into om. This is what midday weather (fair, 66 degrees Fahrenheit) on the day after Christmas sounded like: octave call and response, mama and baby frogs, a didgeridoo hummed by Yahweh. Somewhere in New Orleans, a breeze blew, clouds passed. The temperature climbed to 67 degrees. Ripples. Streaming 24/7 (networks permitting) at the transportive web home, it's hypnotism by Doppler, laughing gas for the ears. Sometimes the infinite symphony stops momentarily, just long enough for you to think it's gone, and then picks up again without warning. Quintron performed a paean to it (with Nels Cline, Sean Lennon and Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley) in New York City in November, and he's built a three-piece band in its name (hometown debut one hour before sunset on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015 at St. Maurice Church). His New Year's resolution is an E major chord, forever resolving. Babes, Heavy Lids and First open. Tickets $20 in advance, $25 at the door.
