Public Health Geneticist

Dr. John P. Doucet, head of the Department of Biological Sciences at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, became Louisiana's first certified public health geneticist after completing a certification program at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, N.Y. Certified public health geneticists study populations for genetic trends in diseases such as cancer, diabetes and asthma, and try to determine whether higher rates are caused by heredity or other factors. — Kandace Power Graves
