  • Mark your calendars: Nov. 29 promises to be a busy day for court watchers. Tim Whitmer, former top aide to disgraced Jefferson Parish president Aaron Broussard, is scheduled to appear in federal court for sentencing. In a plea bargain in March, Whitmer pleaded guilty to one charge of misprision of a felony. Also going to court that day: Brian Downing, the University of Alabama football fan who was caught on video last January rubbing his genitals on the head of a passed-out LSU fan after the BCS national title game. That holds true when it comes to the New Orleans Saints as well. Back in August, owner Tom Benson and his wife Gayle Benson attended a $50,000-a-head fundraising dinner in Metairie for GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney. According to campaign donation records compiled by the Center for Responsive Politics, Benson also contributed directly to Romney in July, and he donated $30,800 to the Republican National Committee. — KEVIN ALLMAN & CLANCY DUBOS
