Re: “Funny People: The New Movement (TNM)

Fat thumbs on smart phone corrections. Apologies to Dr. Jeong for misspelling his name and for my over zealous word completion app . I meant to say inaccurate, not inarticulate.

Re: “Funny People: The New Movement (TNM)

I'm happy TNM got some great press but the comedy scene in New Orleans began it's renaissance long before Mr.Trew returned. I love Stupid Time Machine, I've been a follower since they came out of Improv classes at La Nuit Comedy Theater in New Orleans, Mr. Trew is a La Nuit alumnus as well I believe. The Comedy Gumbeaux krewe is a major force in the recent boom also. Boasting a weekly radio show on WGSO, a well attended weekly open Mic, regional shows produced monthly, regular showcases at the Howlin Wolf and the ambitious comedy community website. Bill Dykes is being humble. Bill developed the biggest comedy room in the metro area, Wednesday Nite comedy at Boomtown Casino. Every week for the last 2 years that show entertains more people then all other regular comedy shows in the area combined. The Wednesday show features national and international comedians and is thought by many touring comics to be the best room for stand up comedy in the gulf south. Also to do an article about sketch and improv and not mention Brown is just irresponsible. Brown is the longest running comedy troupe in New Orleans and the training ground of Ken Jung. I'm happy for Chris, his new theater is a needed and wonderful addition to the scene but the article took on more than "new comedy theater opens". In describing the state of comedy in NOLA the omissions were so glaring as to present a picture that was not just inarticulate but dismissive to those who have worked hard and succeeded in a tough town for comics. As to why comedy is a hard sell in the Big Easy, ask someone local, Comedy Gumbeaux's founder Red Bean or Bill Dykes or touring comic and local TV broadcaster Tom Gregory, someone making a living as a comedian like the 100 or so touring comics who played Boomtown over the last 2 years. All of whom can't wait to come back.
