Re: “Surrey's Cafe & Juice Bar

I did my research on this spot before visiting. Coming from CT I wanted to experience something I had not had before. Surrey's bananas foster. My mother, boyfriend and I arrived at 7:55 am this Sunday. A server came out and put a stand on the side walk and walk back into the restaurant never saying hello. In that short period of time she had turned the close sign to open. At the very least she could have said come on in. Instead we stood 2 more minutes on the side walk not noticing they were open for business. We walk in and the same young lady with curly dark hair and glasses is taking our order. We tell her we want separate checks. She tells us it has to go on one check. So I think no big deal she can just add up one order for us and tell us the difference. The fact of the matter is it was two seperate orders. She was just to lazy to tear off another slip and take my order. Something so simple that would have prevented this entire issue. My mother begins to order and it seems like every response from this young server is snippy. It is Sunday morning! Why are you being so snotty? Then I order. We sit at the bar and wait until we realize we have no cash. Another server tells us to go to the atm at the back of the restaurant. My mother and I walk to the back and my mother mentions the temperament of our server. This server was not very friendly at all. Like I said before very snotty. So we walk back up and the bill is sitting on the the counter. I pick it up and ask the server if she could split the bill. She responds "I can give you a calculator and you can do it yourself"! The way she said would have had anyone pissed off by this point. I said to her that she should not be working Sunday mornings with a terrible attitude. At this point the server wants to go back and forth with me. She seems to keep getting louder. So I say I want to deal with another server. Another server steps into help. We began to speak with the other server. As we explain our misunderstanding to the new server the previous server is chiming in from a different section of the restaurant. I said to her to stop! We are dealing with her now, to stop the back and forth. My mother then says to her 'Stop! It is very unprofessional to go back and forth with your customers'! At this point the 8 people seated are all looking at her. She just would not stop even with the new server, until my mother mention professionalism. The new server calmly explained how they write up the orders. The entire issue was that we wanted separate bills to pay. The server instead wanted to put it on one bill. When we asked for her to just tell use the difference of the orders, the server told us to take a calculator and do it ourselves. That is what pissed me off. Like I mention before, the way she talked was demeaning. If were up to her we would of continued to go back and forth. we the customer had to put an end to the situation. We were told that the manager would not be in until closing. So I intend to report this incident to him. This is how the first customer gets treated. Food was good. However we will not be back. Please excuse typos. I typed this right after the incident.
