Re: “Does the possibility of street crime make you less likely to go downtown?

I don't worry about the crime in NOLA as much as I do it spilling over into Mtairie. I haven't spent any of my dollars in the city since Marc Morial was mayor. After being towed, ticketed and harassed by NOPD, I vowed never to do any business in the city. It dirty, full of young punk thugs, and traffic cameras that get you a ticket even if you didn't do a violation. Try contesting a camera ticket or parking violation. They are both a money grab and illegal. Corruption is a institution in NOLA and that's why it can't attract big business, everybody has their hand out and their pockets full. Landrieu is grand standing wanting to get a shot at D.C. in 2020 since Hillary lost. They should build a wall around it without gates. I was born and raised in the city but left in 1972 because my old neighborhood was going down then and now it's dangerous to even pass through it. As for fear of crime when I enter Orleans parish, my solution is smile and wait for the flash.

Re: “Scenes from the May 1 protest at the Jefferson Davis monument in New Orleans

The anti monument and Antifa people were starting all the trouble on Monday night. Although some supporters after muck provoking did scuffle with the protesters. we were very peaceful. Long after the police moved everyone across the street problem children still heckled the few supporters that stayed. Only once did the NOPD move to stop these people. Having moved twice more and across the intersection by the church one young lady, who was pictured earlier standing on the statue waving an Antifa flag, came over and sprayed me and a lady in a wheelchair with mace. We tried to have the police come over and do something but they just stood by the barricade across Canal and did nothing. A call to 911 did not do any good as no officer came to take a report. The mayor said the next day that protest should be peaceful yet these so called students, mostly drunk, and the Antifa Marxist group still show up causing all the trouble. Although they was a heavy police presence, they mostly just stood around and let these trouble makers get away with covering their faces, being very abusive, threatening and throwing bottles and other objects in the direction of supporters.

Re: “Final public meeting on Confederate monuments ignites explosive debate

Why does the council allow people to get so out of hand?
