Summer Camp Jam

You may notice that with the summer solstice has come an onslaught of kid-friendly events that could fill up its own listings section. Good thing; the last thing we need is a bunch of amped-up kids on our hands. Any chance to burn a little energy, and keep 'em happy along the way, is a very good thing. So our expanded listings section will probably be even more expanded over the next few months as we figure out just where to send the little ones. We can't think of a better, more reliable place to start than with the Summer Camp Jam, featuring our very own Imagination Movers. It's been a pretty heady year for these jump-suited wonders, who at the beginning of July will have one-minute videos distributed on Louisiana Public Broadcasting stations. Local viewers have been hip to these little ditties for a while now. So now everyone can peep and get a peek at such cornerstone tunes as "Recipe (Stir It Up)," a call to arms for kids, and "Junk," a veritable rap fest that would make the Beastie Boys proud or envious. We're not sure which. We are, however, proud of the way the band has incorporated more live instrumentation in their live shows. Special guests will join in on the Movement. Admission $4 in advance, $6 at door. Call for tickets or more info.

10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Friday, July 8
Pontchartrain Center, 4545 Williams Blvd., Kenner, 465-9985
