Re: “Is New Orleans worth it?

Just let this phrase settle in to your head: "They recently moved to Mid-City after being priced out of their Treme apartment."

I think it's great that the Treme has experienced renewed energy, but if a a couple of probably white millenials with the advantages of having degrees and other white collar job skills can't afford to live in the new Treme, then the people who grew up there and have called the neighborhood home over several generations probably can't afford it either.

Re: “Does the possibility of street crime make you less likely to go downtown?

Crime is a mild deterrent, but more than that are amateur drinkers and rude tourists who don't understand that real people have real lives which they live out in New Orleans. It's not some fairy enchantment land for people to come and indulge, puke on, and then skip town. Add hipsters, folks who live here a year and think they know everything about the culture and its people, and the "travelers" who panhandle hardworking actual residents for their limited cash so they can go buy beer. All of THAT crap keeps me more and more from the downtown area.

Re: “Five in 5: king cake-flavored treats

Atomic Burger's King Cake Milkshake is fantastic! it's cream cheese and cinnamon with purple, green, and gold sprinkles on top. It's served in a go cup that turns purple when cold liquids are in it. Super yummy and fun :)

Re: “Best of New Orleans 2016: Food

I just gotta throw out a few overlooked places that are well worth the drive to the suburbs. The Happy Italian in Harahan is AMAZING!. Baked Ziti w/gorgonzola, brown butter garlic sauce, pancetta, and walnuts is not for the faint of heart, but it is one of the better dishes I've eaten in the city!

Also in Harahan is a little breakfast/lunch spot called Caffe latte Da. Great baked goods, a mean Irish coffee, and killer omelets and hashbrowns.

And if all you can drum up for Kenner is three boring, redux seafood restaurants, you're missing some good eating. Williams Blvd is loaded with South American, Asian, and Mediterranean little holes in the wall restaurant. CHurra's Brazilian meat grill is worth the drive!

Re: “Waffle House opens in Mid-City

Oh, FFS, get over yourselves. Everyone who has ever had a late night out or a road trip knows that the comfort of a pile of scattered, smothered, covered and chunked hash browns is the sh!t.

I'd love to eat Pizza Delicious or Slice every time I want pizza, or really, I prefer Mo's on the west bank. But sometimes I don't want to deal with parking on St. Charles, or navigate hipster douchebag central for a freaking piece of pizza.

Sometimes I want an iced mocha from Starbucks because they do espresso based drinks really well. Ambiance? Depends on the hood. One person's ambiance is another's Sartrian, inescapable Hell.
