The Pillowman

In Martin McDonagh's dark fantasy thriller The Pillowman, a writer must choose between his own life and the continued existence of his stories. Ultimately, it's the stories that survive. Writer Katurian K. Katurian crafts tales about gruesome child murders while living under the watch of a despotic government. Police interrogate him when they find real-life killings that are strikingly similar to those laid out in his stories. After a revealing conversation with his mentally handicapped brother, Katurian strikes an ominous deal with his interrogators. Irish playwright McDonagh has penned numerous plays, including The Lieutenant of Inishmore, which is currently on the boards at Southern Rep. The Pillowman won the Olivier Award for best new play in 2004. Dane Rhodes directs Blake Balu, Robert Pavlovich, Bob Scully, Leon Contavesprie, Angie Joachim, T.J. Toups and Samantha Evers. Tickets $30 general admission, $28 students/seniors, $20 Wednesdays. -- Emily Hohenwarter
