The Teeth

More than four decades after British rockers first invaded America, our nation's original capital seems to be staging its own coup d'Žtat from within the country's very borders. Ordered by Dr. Dog, whose 2004 debut Easy Beat (and 2007 follow-up We All Belong) established the melodically inclined pop troupe as the new millennium's premier Beatles boosters, the new Philadelphia revolution gets further outfitting with You're My Lover Now (Park the Van), the terrific April release from fellow Philly foursome the Teeth. The band's rousing first long-player riffs off its 2005 EP, the Kinks-esque Carry the Wood, with twin brothers and co-frontmen Peter and Aaron MoDavis banging out burlesque, vaudevillian-barroom piano fills (check the tone-setting "Molly Make Him Pay," surely one of 2007's top album openers). They also shout tuneful (but still obscenity-filled) taunts at one other as if bent on revisiting a vintage '60s Davies tiff. Brit-rock enthusiasts, be forewarned: The City of Brotherly Love just got a whole lot bawdier. Baton Rouge natives the Eames Era open. Tickets $5. -- Noah Bonaparte Pais
