Re: “The Weed Issue

Most of Colorado is happy with that $2.1 million from January. Those are arguments that prohibitionists are making.

All of those industries make a lot of tax money. Bureaucracy is the reason tax money is misused and appear to not be sufficient. And don't even bring up lobbyists lobbying their way out of paying large taxes. But Its better to have big business run the industry than having crime organizations like La Cosa Nostra setting the "regulations."

You are still missing the point that legality/illegality does not solve the demand for getting high and the problems and risk associated with intoxication. Society does not stop making high industrial glue or butane just because people inhale them to get high.

Not to mention Big pharma is the biggest drug dealers on the planet. The FDA approved a pain killer called Zohydro recently where the FDA's own scientists voted 11-2 AGAINST its approval because its stronger than oxycontin. Not only that its in pill form, which means it can be crushed and snorted. Kentucky's attorney general was fighting and asking the FDA to consider reversing this to no avail. Pain killers are the new REAL gateway drug because when you no longer can get a prescription for those drugs people seek out equally harder black market drugs.

Yet we are going to sit here and argue about cannabis usage.

Re: “The Weed Issue

I remember that last hearing on marijuana where the DEA agent was saying that if we legalize it, in about 10 years the American people were going to be pleading to the DEA and asking what can we do to fix it.

Now one thing I agree with AhContaire about is the tax money. But that's because the states and especially CORRUPT ASS LOUISIANA will find a way to misappropriate the funds. The school board gets like $4.4 billion from the Lotto, but Jindal in an attempt to show the nation that he is saving the state money(because lets be real he has BIGGER political aspirations) CUT spending and teachers and students SUFFERED. But the money is there. Supposedly.

However, no one has asked the government to fix alcohol since prohibition. Fix gambling. Fix the number racket now known as the LOTTO, or cigarettes. Vice AS A WHOLE, is a luxury to enforce. The role of law enforcement started as a way to protect people's right from other people. Not to protect them from themselves. All of those are social issues regardless of its legality. If they were prohibited, Americans would still struggle with these issues. Barring them would allow people who struggle with these demons to hide those same demons AND NOT SEEK ASSISTANCE.

Then there is the fact from an addiction standpoint that less people suffer from cannabis dependency than all of the ones that AhContaire mentioned. Its like 1 in 11. And majority of those people who attend treatment are their because its a better option than going to jail.

The real reason Louisiana and most of the Southern states are conservative on this issue has to do with prisons, and the fact that many parishes benefit from putting people in jail from drug offenses. Financially and voting wise too, because prisoners count toward the census of the area the prison is located.

Re: “A City of Treme Characters

Next year the excitement of the Saints coming back and the NFC championship run is probably going to be a theme. The return of crime will probably be another theme. Speaking of which, I would like to see that Texas bouncer who came back with Sonny do like the guy who was walking in the Quarters with his girlfriend and kills the robber who tried to rob them.

Re: “Post-K-Ville

Ok, I'm pretty confident that the show will be superb. I mean we are talking David Simon, Eric Overmeyer and George Pelacanos collaborating with Piazza, and we have Bunk and Freamon along with Kay Howard acting. But I hope we don't have another Frank's Place, where the show is excellent, and rings true to the Crescent City, but it fails to find an audience.

I think HBO will give David Simon the 10 episodes at least. I mean they gave David Milch a season of that horrible John From Cincinnati.

HBO I think are putting there hopes on Boardwalk Empire with Steve Buscemi about the forming of the casinos in Atlantic City, but I think Treme will wind up being phenomenal just because of the ensemble involve.
