Preservation Hall
will receive the SFJAZZ Center's Lifetime Achievement Award at a gala concert in San Francisco in February 2018. "Preservation Hall is a model of how a cultural institution can become an integrated part of a city's identity — an idea that inspires us," the center said in a statement. The concert will feature the Pres Hall Jazz Band, Ellis Marsalis, Terence Blanchard, Christian Scott, Big Freedia and dozens of other New Orleans musical luminaries.

Parkway Bakery & Tavern
raised $8,000 for the Al Copeland Foundation for cancer research with its "I Did It for the Turkey" promotion, which allowed $100 donors to "cut the line" for the restaurant's wildly popular Thanksgiving po-boys. former head of Louisiana State Police, lived the high life on taxpayers' dime during his nine-year tenure, according to a draft of a Legislative Auditor's report. The Advocate reported last week that the audit "portrays Edmonson as a freeloader who never turned down a handout" and that he "may have broken several laws during his nine years as superintendent." Edmonson announced his retirement recently after controversies.
