Twelfth Night: the Drinking Game

Shakespeare's Twelfth Night has its own carnivalesque spirit: a crowded affair of concealed identities, at least one costume that should be avoided, revelry, lusty intrigue and a few narrowly avoided fights. The Legitimate Theater Company makes its version a bit rowdier by turning it into a drinking game. As Sir Toby and Sir Andrew carouse onstage they invite audience members to also raise a glass on worthy and frequent occasions. Director Richard Lovejoy and partner Megan Kingery got the idea to invite spectators into the story's hedonism and enjoyed two successful runs in New York City as well as being named Best of Season 2005-06 by Tickets $7. -- Will Coviello
