Re: “A proposed ball pit in the Marigny

Hey Josh- no qualitative judgement here, but please address the "ick factor" of maintaining a level of sanitation in this site. I'm not really the squeamish type, but I do live in DT New Orleans, and I know what our heat, humidity, and vermin are capable of.
Will the balls be replaced once a month, for example? If the building isn't structurally sound enough for reconstruction, is it structurally sound enough for the inevitable drunken roughhousing that will occur at some point? (Don't want a 200 pound frat-boy slamming into a crossbeam and bringing part of the ceiling down.) And what kind of "policing" will be on-site to maintain a safe level of play and behavior?
I understand where the nouveau-naif "wonderment-of-childhood" art concepts come from- we all have the desire to introduce a little niceness and fun into our city that is all-too-often violent. But there are a whole lotta non-artsy concerns with a project like this, so regardless of whether we "like it," or think it's art at all, those practicalities have to be addressed.

Re: “Why John Derbyshire hated New Orleans

WOW. I cannot believe I just read coverage of an article written after 1970 that uses "Blacks" as a stand-alone noun. Not even "black people," but "Blacks." I wonder if he uses the old south variant "Nigrahs" in his private conversations.
