Wanda Jackson with Holly Golightly and the Brokeoffs at Tipitina's

The 2011 return of Wanda Jackson, January release The Party Ain't Over (Third Man/Nonesuch), hinges on two symbolic covers that bracket the rockabilly queen's 50-year reign: "Thunder on the Mountain," by Bob Dylan, who was Robert Zimmerman, University of Minnesota freshman, when Jackson's Elvis-borrowed crossover "Let's Have a Party" cracked the Top 40 chart in 1960; and "You Know I'm No Good," by Amy Winehouse, who in her most cross-eyed, Stella-spilling state is still maybe a tenth as threatening as the teenaged Jackson seemed to the establishment in the late 1950s, when her embellished dress (heels! fringe!) and outspoken string of growled Capital Records outbursts ("I Gotta Know," "Mean, Mean Man," "Fujiyama Mama") imploded popular notions of women in music. Woven throughout the LP fete is a third touchstone: guitarist/producer Jack White, now two-for-two at waking dormant country goddesses. More retrospective than restart — unlike 2004's Van Lear Rose, which reframed Loretta Lynn's entire career — The Party Ain't Over works best as a postscript soundtrack to the comprehensive 2008 documentary The Sweet Lady With the Nasty Voice, 11 more rolls in the hay with rock's first female haymaker. Holly Golightly and the Brokeoffs open. Tickets $18 in advance, $20 at the door. — Noah Bonaparte Pais
