We're Only In It For The Honey CD-Release Party

Sometimes, there is no greater joy catalyst than good, solid, honest American guitar rock. We're Only In It For The Honey delivers that in spades, wearing a big, fat, unironic grin all the while, and it's a very good thing, we think, in a city suffering from mass collective dysthymia. It might be presumptuous to say the band has the power to rock us out of our post-Katrina funk, but listening to the much-awaited new album, Gimme More, it seems at least possible. Less arena-rockish than Supagroup, more organic than Rock City Morgue, We're Only In It For The Honey is Crescent City hard rock at its dirtiest -- a laidback onslaught of triumphant guitar, pummeling drums and muddy, low-down bass with lyrics that give shout-outs to all the right signifiers: dirty girls, rock 'n' roll, and New Orleans. The album will make you drive too fast. At live shows, lead singer James Rock Bottom does his best to channel the early frenzy of Iggy Pop on stage. Tickets $5. -- Alison Fensterstock
